Family Formation is a unique faith formation program offered at St. Teresa parish which truly nourishes the domestic church – the family!
A careful reading through the documents of the Catholic Church quickly reveals the Church’s great hopes and expectations for the family:
- “The right and duty of parents to give education is essential … original and primary … and it is irreplaceable and incapable of being entirely delegated to others.” John Paull II, Familiaris Consortio, 36.
- “The family is a domestic church.” Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium, 11.
As a Church, we realize our ineffectiveness to catechize children if their parents are not involved in the process. By evangelizing parents to realize what the Church is asking of them, and giving them support and encouragement in their mission, we are answering the Church’s call.
In a nutshell, this is what Family Formation accomplishes. Adult catechesis teaches and encourages parents and provides them with the Catholic “know-how” to share the Good News and the beauty of the Catholic Faith with their children. The general outline of the program brings participating families together two-times each month, September through April, for community and catechesis for both children and their parents. The evening concludes with parents equipped to lead their family in easy-to-follow, ready-made lessons for the month.
